Reader: Big changes are accomplished through small intentional improvements Morning Minute 9.15.26 Stop Trying to Transform Everything Big changes are accomplished through small, intentional improvements. What does transformation really mean? Transformation is a significant change from where you are today to where you need to be tomorrow. How do you know when transformation is necessary? · When what made you successful yesterday…is no longer working. · When what you're doing today…isn't producing the results you expect. · Or, when a new responsibility requires you to create success where none currently exists. Transformation can sound overwhelming. It doesn't have to be. Suppose you're assigned to lead an underperforming business unit. You could walk in and immediately start changing everything. Don't. Instead, simplify the transformation using these steps. 1. DEFINE THE DESTINATION. 2. UNDERSTAND YOUR REALITY. 3. ESTABLISH BENCHMARKS. 4. KEEP EXECUTION SIMPLE. 5. LEARN AND ADJUST. 6. CREATE MOMENTUM. But there's one more requirement. You must become the transformation you are asking others to make. If you expect accountability—be accountable. If you expect communication—communicate. If you expect improvement—keep improving. If you expect your people to accept change—demonstrate your willingness to change first. Your team watches what you do more closely than it listens to what you say. Transformation isn't one enormous event. It's a series of small, intentional improvements consistently repeated until yesterday's reality becomes tomorrow's success. So, here's your challenge this week: Identify one small improvement that would help your team move forward. Then ask: What can I do to help make it happen? Start there.
