Morning Minute – 4.14.26
What Is Your Primary Mission?
It’s not what you said. It’s how they heard it!

Recently, I asked an auto sales team and their manager a simple question:
“What is your primary mission?”

The answers came quickly—
Sell more cars.”
Increase gross profit.”
Provide better service.”

All reasonable answers… but I had a feeling we weren’t quite there yet.

So, I asked, “Then what?”

They said, “We’ll have more customers.”
I asked again, “Then what?”
“We’ll sell more cars.”

And that’s when it became clear—we were focused on what we do, not why it matters.

So, we kept digging.

I asked, “Why do customers choose to do business with you?”
Some said price. Others said service. Some said convenience.

I pushed a little further:
“What are your customers really trying to accomplish?”

That’s when things started to shift.

They said,
“They need a better vehicle.”
“Something bigger or smaller.”
“Or they have a problem with their current car.”

Now we were getting closer.

So, I asked one more question:
“By helping them get a better vehicle or solve a problem… what are you really doing for them?”

And that’s when it clicked.

“We’re helping them get something that better fits their lifestyle.”

Exactly.

So, I asked,
“Then can we say your mission is to help your clients improve their lives?”

And they all said resoundingly — “Yes.”

That is clarity.

As leaders, we often assume people understand the mission… because we understand it.

But clarity isn’t about what you say—it’s about what they understand.
It’s how their mind hears what you say.

Clear is kind. Unclear is costly.

It shows up in missed expectations, inconsistent performance, and unnecessary frustration.

So, here’s your move today:
Before you walk away from your next conversation, ask:
“What questions do you have?”

Or even better:
“Are we clear on what we’re really trying to accomplish?”

Because when people are clear on the mission… performance follows!

Plus, great performances allow them to:
Be More, Do More, and Earn More!

Lead well today.

And remember:
Information without Transformation is Wasted Energy!

That is today’s Morning Minute.
