“Fathers: Your Families Will Always Need You!”

Before 1965, nearly all fathers in the United States lived at home with their families, regardless of race, religion, or location. Fathers were the heads of their households, the primary providers, the protectors, and the disciplinarians of their children.

Today, more than half of all households have no father living at home with their children. We have sons without fathers to teach them how to become men, and daughters without fathers to show them what to expect from men. There are many causes: divorce, separation, and too often, the abdication of responsibility by fathers themselves.

Compounding the problem, government programs create incentives that reward single-parent homes, discouraging the father’s involvement. It’s no surprise that we see rising violence, irresponsibility, and declining success among our children.

The family was designed with fathers, mothers, and children; each with vital, complementary roles. Today, we focus on the father’s role in children’s success.

EXAMPLE: Fathers are called to model responsibility and integrity. For sons, that means showing how to be dependable men, loving husbands, and devoted fathers—providing for their families financially, spiritually, and emotionally. For daughters, fathers demonstrate what to look for in a man—as a friend, a partner, and a future father.

ENGAGEMENT: Fathers must stay actively involved in their children’s lives, regardless of marital status. That means being present, listening, and guiding them through life’s trials. Children thrive knowing their fathers are available and interested in their success.

COMMITMENT: A father’s commitment begins at birth and lasts a lifetime. Together with mothers, fathers teach their children responsibility, discipline, communication, and perseverance. True fatherhood is not a season—it’s a lifelong covenant to equip your children for success.

To reverse the decline in our families, fathers must lead by example, engage with purpose, and stay committed through every stage of children’s lives. The health and success of our children, and our nation, depends on fathers fulfilling their God-given roles.

Morning Minute Challenge for Fathers:
This week, take intentional time with your children—listen to them, share part of your own story, and remind them through your words and actions that you will always be there for them. Your presence today helps shape their success tomorrow.
